Statistics show there is a strong likelihood you will sustain a work-related injury at some point during your working career.


HOW DOES WSIB DEFINE AN ACCIDENT


  • A work related injury is not just an identifiable accident (like a patient grabbing you and wrenching your back).  It can also be something that happens gradually over time.


  • It can be a strain, sprain, pull, illness, exposure


  • Illnesses, including conditions that develop as a result of exposures to blood-borne pathogens, molds, SARS, Norwalk Virus etc. can also be considered a work-related injury


WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY


  • Report ALL injuries, illnesses, exposures, disablements IMMEDIATELY to the employer when FIRST sustained.  The sooner you report, the easier the process...however you can file up to 6 months from the date of the accident.


  • Ask employer to complete a


  • Employer MUST complete a form 7, even if they don't think your work is the cause of your injury.  You MUST receive a copy of the form 7....and always read the form before you sign it to make sure the information is accurate


  • If the employer refuses to complete a form 7, notify WSIB and fill out a 


  • To officially claim for WSIB benefits (as oppossed to just notifying employer of injury) a form 6 MUST be completed by you, the worker.


  • See your treating healthcare professional immediately and have them complete a 


  • You may be required to have a Functional Abilities Form fifffff  completed by your healthcare provider



IMPORTANT THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND


  • Always keep a copy of all forms and reports


  • Do not use sick time for a WSIB claim


  • Always thoroughly read any form before signing, making sure that ALL information is accurate


  • Report ANY injury to employer, even if it will not result in missed time, as that injury may become much worse in the following days.

 

  • Ask your ONA unit rep. or executive member for help if needed
